Alpha added pension 2026-27 via monthly salary but retiring during the year

Hi, quick question to do with early retirement.

If I go for early retirement in 2026-27 taking reduced Classic and Alpha/added pension, what happens to my Alpha added pension monthly contributions via salary for 26-27? The application deadline is 6/3/26 for contributions to start on 1/4/26 and I still want to do this to keep out of the 40% tax band. I have been doing this in previous years for this reason.

I do not intend to continue paying AP after early retirement for the duration until March 2027 (assume it’s not allowed anyway as the whole of my civil service pension would be put into early payment). Do the AP contributions accrued so far in 26-27 get converted to early payment pro-rata (and actuarially reduced) along with the rest of my reduced Classic/Alpha pension?

Retiring early may keep me out of the 40% tax band (I also have savings) but I want to do the AP payments anyway and not via lump sum.

TIA

From the CSPS website - "if you leave the pension scheme, your EPA contributions will stop on the day you leave. You keep the EPA portion of your pension that you have built up, unless you are leaving woth less than 2 yeara service"

  • Thanks that is the EPA bit. The Added Pension says:

    • Contracts start on 1 April and must run for the full scheme year (until 31 March), unless you leave the Civil Service Pension Scheme.

so I’m assuming that applies to early retirement and the accrued Added Pension so far is converted pro rata and actuarially.

I couldn’t find the 2026 Added Pension calculator either, only the one on their website which is for 24-25? With the state of Capita, I do not know how quickly they will answer email queries.
