Moriarty Law - JC International
I have received an email from moriarty law acting on behalf of JC international acquisition LLC for a scottish power debt at my previous property from nearly 6 years ago (august 2020) stating that l owe JC international money and they are acting on their behalf and offering me a 40% discount if l pay within 28 days.
What will be the best steps to take with this please, what letter/letters do l need to send?
Also l have just checked my credit report and its showing the balance from scottish power as £0 and a default was put on my account on 27th August 2020.Please can someone advise me on the steps l need to take about this?
Thanks🙂

JC International have bought the debt, and Moriarty law have been assigned to collect it.
It won`t be statute barred till August this year, according to those dates.
I assume its your debt and you recognise it?
Will the back billing rules apply here? you may want to check, otherwise you pay it or you don`t, I can`t think of an option 3.

Forgive the Ai response, its just easier to copy and paste it.
The back billing rules set by Ofgem state that:
- You cannot be billed for energy used more than 12 months ago if you have previously requested a bill for that period and have not received one. 1
- Suppliers cannot charge you for energy or standing charges over 12 months old unless you have been billed for the same amount previously. 1
- If you receive a back bill, you should check if it complies with these rules and can complain to your supplier if it does not.
