Wrong tax code and repayment options

I am not sure about contacting HMRC. There is an online form for reporting pension contributions see below but I note the bit near the top of the page which says effectively don't use this if you do self assessment.

I confess I have never used that form so I don't know what happens to your tax code if you do (or how quickly it happens). If you use it in March it probably wouldn't impact this years tax code anyway.
If it was me I'd let the self assessment sort it out rather than trying to get the PAYE operating to perfection. I think @Dazed_and_C0nfused has already said you won't get a 1257L tax code for the rest of the tax year (at least not on a cumulative basis). So I would leave that alone

I would agree with @DRS1 you ar probably best of leaving this tax year now and getting in touch with HMRC just before the new tax year starts and arrange a new code for 2026/27 but sort 2025/26 via your tax return.
