You are being, well, covert about what this car actually is.

The list price for any company vehicle when the vehicle is new is what determines the BIK applicable.

That is usually the list price for the vehicle including any adaptions / optional features. So, if an individual had the XYZ trim of the ABC car and added towbar, that towbar becomes part of the list price used to determine the BIK.

There is an exception to the cost of adaptions for disability reasons not being taken into account in the BIK assessment.

There may be an exception to the cost of concealed emergency lighting and sirens as being wholly work related and not affecting the BIK calculation. However, the times when such a vehicle is used as a private car are rare. Possibly, in the case of Police Dog Handlers? OR, are you the Prime Minister?

Nothing that exciting….its just got fitted hidden lights and sirens but its unmarked, available for my private use. My reason for asking is that its an EV so the company BIK at 20% of the original value (based on being told its an asset) is a lot different to BIK on current list price which is different to the 2% EV basic BIK.

An associate bought an ex diplomatic/royal protection vehicle and claimed it still had its concealed lights and sirens. A mutual friend, who used to head up the service in the met, said it can't have as they are always removed before they are sold. Someone messed up.

Uncle, armed response officer, used to have his unmarked police car at home, had a gun safe in the back.

But could your Uncle use the car as a family runaround also?

I know someone who is high-up in LFB and has a marked incident response vehicle and takes it home when off shift but is only permitted to use it for LFB calls, not as a family car. No BIK.

I would expect any Police vehicle permitted to be at the individual's home would not also be available for private use and, hence, no BIK arising. In the same way as your Uncle could not, presumably, use the gun from the boot at the local rifle range or clay pigeon shooting?

I mean he did use it, if he should have or not may be a different matter. The guns were in the gun safe in his home when he wasnt working/on call; weren't stored in the car ordinarily. He never owned any personal weapons and he wouldnt be allowed to use the police weapons for recreational purposes. The shotgun's barrel was too short to be legal for private use but useful for building clearance.

My memories were better of later, he went from armed response to fire arms instructor. He'd lost the car by then but we went down to the police range and got to use weapons there; mainly from the confiscated weapons locker.

the OP needs to be clear about their circumstances

if it's 'company asset' are you the company owner or are you an employee ( or Office Holder) in a mangerial role who may have to respond from home either 'on call' or whome works a 'flexible duty system' working pattern ?

is the vehicle fully marked and substantially adapted ( e.g. it's based on an estate car but it's effectively a van as we see with some Ambulance FRVs or Police Dog units i.e. it only has front seats and the rear 'windows' are fully opaque due to livery / being panelled over ) or isi just a tax dodge sets of warning devices fuitted ot s standard passenger care

it's a company car if oyu can use it as your own vehicle when off duty , doubly so if 'covert' / unmarked ( or even semi marked) …
