How accurate does a tax return need to be?

My fault that I'm not as organised as I should be but I've just discovered I'm missing a P60. I can do a fairly reasonable guessimate for the numbers and update with more accuracy in a few weeks. Will that suffice?

I had to do similar last year with my foreign paid pension as I had no easy way convert the numbers into GBP and there were no questions asked. But with UK income a P60 would have been produced and submitted so they will have the right numbers somewhere.

Aren't P60 figures prepopulated within self-assessment anyway, or are you submitting on paper?

Can you get a copy of the P60 from your Employer?

Payroll dept might be able to give you the figures straight away even if they can't send you another copy immediately.

Alternatively, the P60 numbers should reflect whatever was on your last payslip for the year.

    From gov.uk:

    Lost P60

Ask your employer for a replacement P60.

If you cannot get a replacement from them, you can either:

No they're not prepopulated unfortunately, at least not that I've seen. Not submitting on paper as that would involve me having to pay for a stamp I guess and I'm too cheap for that!!!

The company was too small to have a payroll department and everything was online but the system changed just about the time I left hence having the problem. I've gone ahead with the figures I could conjure up and I've managed to get something submitted despite us having repeated power blips that kicked me out of everything a few times.
