How to get my tax rebate?

This might not be the right title for this but could not find another more suited to what I am asking.
I have been told I have a tax rebate in a letter from the HMRC which I know is genuine but have been unable to get the site to 'recognised' me on their site despite whatever I did many times over.
I also rang on a few occasions knowing that I would not get through straight away but spent ages on hold as number xxx until I gave up.

My question is, if I do not collect this via their site/over the phone,  will they eventually just put it into my wage/pension or will it sit there until I access it?
Thanks
