Ware to Mile End Underground via Stratford using Oyster(+16-25 railcard)

Daughter using Oyster (with 16-25 railcard) to Uni, travelling off peak from Ware (Greater Anglia)  to Mile End via Stratford. Would she need to touch a pink reader at Stratford to show she is not travelling via Liverpool Street (Zone 1).

I know there are pink readers located at Stratford but when I used the Oyster single fare finder, it does now indicate a need to touch a pink reader.

Thanks.

It never hurts to touch a pink reader. If it were me I'd try one day with and one day without and see if there's a difference in payment.

With the caveat that I don’t actually know the answer … A year or so ago I did a cross London journey. One route would have been via zone 1, but it was possible to avoid zone 1 so that is what I did. Because I only tapped in and out at the beginning and end of the journey, the TfL system assumed I’d gone through central London and charged me accordingly. I could probably have claimed back from TFL but frankly their customer service is not great so I didn’t bother. The next time I did that journey I tapped out and back in at the interchange and got charged the right amount.

On the farefinder, Ware to Mile End Underground is £4.30 off peak using Oyster with 16 to 25 railcard attached.

The alternative off peak fare was only £5.30 if changing from Greater Anglia to tube at Liverpool Street.

I told my daughter to travel via Stratford without tapping any pink readers. I thought at worst, she would be charged £5.30. She tapped in at Ware and tapped out at Mile End and was charged the correct fare £4.30.

    Hi,

In the past I've found the following website to be helpful

    https://oysterfares.com

If I've not been able to find the answer on the website I've occasionally posted questions on their forum and got a good response.
