Hi, this seemed the most appropriate place to mention this scheme which I discovered today after some digging about. Not so much money-saving as a morality-saving for anyone who struggles with the ethics of living in a throw-away society perhaps!

I've upgraded my very old feather and down duvet and wanted it to be re-purposed but got turned away by local animal shelters and charities. My local option was to walk to a local tip, hand it to someone in a car and ask them to add it to their drop off for incinceration! (They don't allow walk-ins!)

Luckily, I found Re:Down who were founded in Hungary in 2015 and have a scheme that reclaims and repurposes down and feathers globally and re-purposes them into new products. Their website gives info on the process here: Re:Down® - Recycling Down - Discover how we recycle down

In the UK, they collect via Alpkit stores or items can be posted to them info here: Alpkit Accepts Used Down with Re:Down Donations

Although it states 100% down products only, (my Ikea duvet is 90% feather and 10% down), Re:Down clarified: "Don’t worry: they accept all down and feathers filled products. They mention 100% down because we can’t recycle products filled with synthetics even partially, so your duvet filled with 10% down 90% feathers is ok."

I hope this is of use to others who may wish to update older feather and down bedding or clothing.

Thanks for the tip. Since we've had the heat pump, the summer duvet is in use all year and I was wondering what to do with our (only used 2 winters) king sized duvet.

This will give me a guilt free way to dispose of it and a nice day out in Hathersage.

Yep a useful alternative for sure. I laid ours out up in the loft, adds to the insulation and helps surpress glass fibres over the area covered.
