Washing Machine Won't Drain

Hi everyone,

Before we have to call somebody out or purchase a new machine, does anybody have any tips to try and get our machine working again please?

It does every other function that it should - except for draining at the end...

Any help would be great please.

Many thanks!

Buy a new machine because it won't drain? Not very MS is it?

Could be a variety of things, have you checked/cleaned the drain pump? Often get bits of muck, coins or other debris in there. Check your instruction manual on how to do this. If it's a Bosch, there's a small hose behind the kick panel to drain the drum fully before you undo the drain pump cover (unless you want a flooded kitchen).

A new pump costs about £25 and is fairly easy DIY to fit or relatively inexpensive for a local repair man to do.

  • i know it maybe silly but have u looked at the filter to c if its full of rubbish sometimes u get pennys and fluff then if its full the machine wont drain.

    Thanks guys!

No, not very money saving to buy a new machine, I know, but repairs always seem to cost a lot and then go wrong again in another six months (or for us anyway!) Machine is quite a few years old too.

May get hubby to look into doing a bit of DIY! _pale_ (we have Frank Spencer tendancies in this family!)

    Thanks again!

  • Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would tag on the end of Nyla1979's.

My 5 year old Whirlpool will not drain. I have done all that the manual advises... I have cleaned the filter out every six months since I had it so I know that it is not that. The hose is not frozen or kinked either. I have a 'man' coming out on Tuesday costing £35 call out, cost of pump could be £70 tops plus additional labour. But before he comes I have a question that I hope someone can answer... A couple of weeks ago I heard that it was really good to do a HOT soda crystal wash every month (as I don't use Calgon). I usually wash on 30 degrees, but did a wash on 95 degrees. Does anyone out there know if there is a possibility that the soda crystal wash has removed the limescale and maybe blocked somewhere that is accessible for me to check...

Also if I need to move my washing machine out, I will need to disconnect the hoses first. Is it safe to disconnect them under the sink and reconnect them once the machine is back in its place? (obviously I would turn the water off first and the electrics!)

I hope someone can help... it might save me £100+
  • £40 later and I could have done the job myself. The pipe linked to the u-bend was blocked. I'm sure the soda crystal wash contributed but no doubt it was also build up over time.
