Mortgage for the older couple

I am 73 and my partner is 62 and we are trying to understand what our options are with regards to mortgages. We are both employed.  Looking to buy a £300k property and have £100k deposit available. Is the governments OPSO scheme the best option.

Most lenders won't lend to people over 70 years old. Can your partner get a mortgage on their own and pay back the £200k within the next 8 years?

I am not familiar with OPSO but if you are willing to look at shared ownership it might not be a bad option. It will give some security compared to renting.
