If you are searching for names in connection with Births Marriages and Death the cost has just been significantly reduced.
Where previously for Robert Shilling you had to type in "SHI". That is the first three letters of the surname and then work your way, using a binary chop method, through lots of pages of names now you can not only type in "SHILLING" but you can also type in "ROBERT"
THis narrows the field more than somewhat so it reduces the number of pages yoiu have to look through.
Just as an example where you would have searched 12 pages you now only search 2 pages. Pages cost 10p a peep.
All Births, Marriages and Deaths registered since 1837 are at the website. I have found members of my family who vanished without a trace.

Thanks for this, Robert! I've been researching both my mother's and father's families on & off for about a year, but haven't used 1837online for a good few months...It was a nuisance (and costly) trawling through the indexes, so I've been putting off starting up again. This sounds much more efficient.

It is an excellent site for anyone interested in their family history. I managed to trace both the birth & death certificates of my mother's elder brother who died when he was only six weeks old. My mum is now 72 & always wondered how much older her brother was than her, as their mother would never talk about him. It cost a lot in time & money having to trawl through all those indexes, but well worth it as my mum was so pleased that she finally got to know exactly where &when he was born, & died and what he died of.0 -
Excellent. I have found out several things that I did not previously know................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

Great stuff Robert. Ive been looking for my fathers records who died when I was a lad. Even been to Kew at the Natonal Archives and could not find anything. For the price of a pint I have found out his date of birth and date of death. I have ordered a copy birth certificate from GRO for about £11 so everything now is falling into place. Thanks again Robert!0

These type of census records are a god send when researching the family tree. Not all births etc... were actually registered. Take my Great Great grandfather for instance. We found him on the census though, and in the process filled out the rest of the family tree.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

There's guidance on the 1837online site, and also https://www.genuki.co.uk has a lot that's useful for beginners as well as lots of links. Or you could try the soc.genealogy.britain newsgroup. Good hunting!0
