Just about to start instructing a solicitor and also booked my mortgage appointment for later in the week.

Sorta dreading the appointment as even though I have the DIP and I checked via their helpline before that my new contract was enough evidence for employment going forward I am slightly worried that something pops up that effects me actually getting a mortgage. I've just had a really crappy set of months and bad luck prior to selling my house that I'm a little anxious.

I shouldn't think that way though - positive vibes only.

It was similar to how I bought my first house. The actual moving was so relaxed because I didn't need to do it in one day - so I am looking forward to being able to take stock and move things in at my own pace.

Also found out that it looks like the property the vendors are buying is also chain-free so very small chain to deal with. About as good as I could have asked for!

got my mortgage secured! More expensive for a monthly payment than I necessarily wanted - had to go 32 years over 35+ due to a pre-retirement length meaning less extra evidence required and a 5 year mortgage at a slightly higher rate. As I haven't got active pension payments yet it would have complicated matters.

I had budgeted for the amount I'm due to pay though so it's not more than the max I had in mind and I still have room to overpay in the £200-£300/month area.

That’s great news and must be such a relief. Once you get settled you can start to find a mortgage OP amount you’re comfortable with. Every little helps!

Started work and finished the first week - quite hard work after 4ish months off! But glad to be back earning a salary. Not heard much on house but had mortgage offer documentation through so that's all good. Looking to checkin with solicitors next week if I've not heard anything. The home report is due 23rd - not expecting much from it as the house seems in pretty good condition but will be interesting to see what is reported.

Been a few weeks! I'm officially getting settled at work and loving the environment - so landed on my feet in that way. I also ended up with a lovely tax refund due to not working for 4.5 months I got all the 40% tax I had paid earlier in the year back. Helped make my 8 days of pay look more like a 2/3 pay check which was a lovely bonus.

House purchase is slowly going through - not much and nothing worrying cam out of the home report which is good.
