I've fought for years to get debt and default free with only 1 default (AMEX) left on Equifax and Experian. It's due off Oct 26.
Im paying £25 pcm to them and not missed a payment even though its hard.
I rang them today to ask if that amount could be reduced as Im almost negative £300 pcm on their own calculator.
They sayd NO. You gotta now pay £104 pcm or we will put another default in your credit report.
Can they do this?

No they can't (although in theory they could go to court for a CCJ which would be on your credit report for another 6 years).
Where did they get the figure of £104 from? Is there any clue how they came up with such an unreasonable amount?
Do you have other debts that you are paying each month?0 -
Just as I thought. The 104 came from nowhere. They just said 25 wasn't enough and their new calc was 104.

Creditor call handlers are expected to be the font of all knowledge, but in practice they fall far short of that mantle.
With that in mind, it beggars the question why on Earth are you speaking to them?
At best all they do is give you incorrect information, just pay what is affordable and don`t enter into any discussions about it, if you are still paying them direct I assume its never gone to a debt collector, so you should have plenty of time and wiggle room with this one yet.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
