Help with Rundles enforcement fees

I had missed council tax payments on a rental property which was vacant, as the managing agent had not forwarded mail to us.

The situation carried on for come months, as the property was empty due to a problem tenant.

A liability order was issued and Rundles were appointed.  I have just cleared the arrears on the council’s website but Rundles are charging £439.31 (including the £75 ‘Stage 1’ fee.

Am I obliged to pay the full £439.31 to Rundles ? Or just the £75 stage 1 fee ?

Clearly this was a significant oversight on my part but just wondered if I have to pay the full amount of the excess charges.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

If the managing agent should have forwarded mail, you have a case against them

On the face of it, you are liable, and they will be looking to make a visit to apply the stage 2 fee of £235.

So you need to act quickly, either to pay the amount now due under the liability order plus £75 (I understand that you have already made a part payment direct to the council) or find a friendly council person in the revenues dept who will recall it if you pay off the LO amount in full direct to the council.

  • Thanks for the replies.

The second stage fee has already been applied as they visited the property.

Presumably I’m liable to pay and just need to raise with the managing agent as mentioned above ?

Another option would be to pay the bailiff in instalments. They won't be particularly generous but 3-6 should be possible.
