Self Assessment calculation

The figure on the ‘your calculation’ page is very much higher than expected. Once over the shock I realise that it is about the amount that I paid in advance payments for the tax year 24/25 (paid Jan 25 and July 25). Was there somewhere I should have entered them in the Self Assessment? Or somewhere I should have seen them autofilled? I don’t want to press submit while the calculation is showing over £4500 more than expected. Thanks

When I did my self assessment, the calculation was for total tax for the year, which included anything Id already paid. When I submitted it, the final demand was only for the difference between the two figures.
You can always go back and amend it if youve made a mistake.1 -
What you see is the calculation of your tax liability for the year. No account is taken of any payments on account that you have made. The self assessment calculation is not connected in any way to your account until you submit it.
once it is processed the payments already made will be included in the calculation for your tax demand statement.
Allow a few days for the system to process and update.1 -
Thanks @sheramber and @Woodstok2000. It was the first year I’d paid tax on savings through PAYE and through the advance payments so seeing the former included and not the latter I thought I’d missed something! All sorted and final bill is just 30p more than I’d calculated myself which seems, given potential rounding differences, pretty much spot on. I’ll know for next year.1
