GP Fitness for Work note

I've been signed off from work for the past month by my GP for work related stress/depression, the Fitness for Work note expires in a weeks time.

I've got a follow up appointment with my GP the day before the end of the expiry of my Fitness for Work note, I've just noticed that on this note the GP has indicated that they will not need to assess my fitness for work at the end of this period.

Does this mean my GP is saying I will be able to return to work when the note expires? What happens if I don't feel well enough to return to work when the note expires next week? Do I request my GP they extend the note?

It means the GP expects that you will be well enough to return to work but if you are not then you will need to see (or at least speak to) the doctor and see if they are willing to further extend the note.
  • Not sure what it means.

it also means the GP doesn;t necessarily needto 'sign you back as fit'   if you  wanted to let the  fit  note expire and return that;s  fine, you could also if you wished go back before it expired without having to see the dr again ...

It used to be when you had a ‘sick note’ your Go had to sign you off to enable you to return to work.

Now that you get a ‘fit note’ unless another fit note is submitted you are due to return to work when the fit note runs out. No sign off by your GP is needed.
