Broke M60+, no income recently, due inheritance of half a house, chances of mortgaging the rest?

TBH I would have thought that selling the property - taking the inheritance, buying somewhere smaller and more easily managed is probably better in the long run1 -
Emotionally you may be better moving on from what was your family home. Financially you definitely would. At your age, do you really need the financial burden of a £400k+ mortgage. Worst case, the income doesn’t materialise as quickly as you’d hoped and you end up with the property repossessed. At 60+ you should be looking at buying outright and bolstering your pension.
