ACIUKLTD have set up a directdebit and taken money from my account

Hi,

I've noticed aciukltd have set up a dd on the 24th December 25 on my account.

I did not authorise this with my bank.

Furthermore, i've never heard of aciuk ever before this.

No letters, no emails. No correspondence at all.

I have no idea how or why they have done this.

What do I do?

(I have no reason to be in debt, everything is paid in full and liquidity is not a problem).

I'm miffed and don't know what to do, apologies for my scattered post.

Kindly,
R

Go online or ring your bank and cancel the direct debit. Find the companies details and contact them to find out what they are playing at and what services they are providing you with.

Cancel the direct debit in your banking app and dispute the transaction with your bank, they should refund you.

You should also get into the habit of regularly checking the direct debts in your app so that you spot them before any money is taken.

It is difficult to find out where ACI are based. A very dodgy company

There was a poster who researched this. Will try to link

on the one link it states
ACI UK is an experienced FCA authorised debt collection agency. Their staff are specially trained to help customers manage their accounts appropriately, positively and empathetically.

On that basis I'd suggest checking your credit history for debts.

But also definitely contact your bank and invoke the DD guarantee and get the DD stopped.

Yes, ACI are a Debt collection agency, and can be a pain to deal with.

Good news is you will not lose any money over this, as you are covered by the Direct debt guarantee, which is a service offered by all banks.

First make certain the DD is cancelled, either do it yourself in your banking app or ask the bank to do it, ask them if the can prevent any future attempts to set one up also, next ask the bank to return the funds taken as you did not authorise the set up of the DD.

That`s it, funds will show in your account usually overnight, or 24 hrs tops.

Has ACI not written to you at all? the main question is how did they get your bank details, have you ever dealt with them before?

Thank you Everyone for the advice. I cancelled the DD in my banking app. My bank has initiated the DD fund return.

I have to speak to the fraud team tomorrow so I will ask them to prevent further direct debits being set up from them.

I also checked my credit report yesterday and nothing untoward came up with one, I'm waiting for the others.

I've never heard from ACI. No one is chasing me for money, everything gets paid right away. How they got my details is the mystery, along with how the direct debit was set up, especially when my bank needs two factor authentication when I want to do this.

Should i send a ProveIt to ACI? I dont have any details to reference apart from a ref I found on the DD.

Thank you all again, I hope this is resolved swiftly, I'm so angry about this.

Are you sure your bank needs two factor authentication to set up direct debits? With every bank I've ever used you just provide the account details to whoever is setting up the direct debit and nothing else is required.

I'd just leave it with your banks fraud team. Debt collectors follow some very dubious practices so I wouldn't engage with them unless you absolutely have to.

Indeed. I'm sure many of us will remember Jeremy Clarkson once publishing his bank account and sort code and finding out direct debits can be set up without the account holder's knowledge or permission. However, the account holder can always rely on the direct debit guarantee and get their money back.
