If what is being alleged in this BBC News article is true then surely some serious disciplinary action should be taken against this practice?

Sadly I suspect more subtle variations on this theme are quite common......

I have been paying for private treatment for some time as there was no other option.
I did this on a pay as you go basis.
I was contacted by the 'practice manager' and told that this was no longer acceptable, and that I must sign up to a Deniplan.
As I am averse to unnecessary insurance I asked what happen if I declined.
I was told that I would be removed from their books.
Reluctantly I signed up and now get called in for two hygienist appts and two checkups per year, which is double my previous pattern. I even had a precautionary x-ray on a recent visit.0 -
Reading the detail in the article, it sound like the headline is a bit of an exaggeration of what is actually going on - but you are quite right that NHS treatment cannot only be offered if some sort of private add-on is a condition.Undervalued said:If what is being alleged in this BBC News article is true then surely some serious disciplinary action should be taken against this practice?

They would be in trouble if that were the case. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
