Payoneer email about Annual Account Fee?

Hi,

Is this a scam? Anyone else had this email from Payoneer:

"Starting February 23, 2026, we’ll be updating when the annual account fee will be charged.
You'll be charged this fee only if you receive less than 6,000 USD (or equivalent) in any 12 consecutive months. The 12-month period considered will include the time before February 23, 2026.
If you're on a paid annual plan, you won't pay this fee in the first year of the plan.
As soon as the update takes effect, you’ll see the updated fee details on the Fees page of your Payoneer account".

Many moons ago (think around 2016-17) I did a couple of tasks for Appen Butler, paid via Payonner as that was the only option at the time.
Haven't done anything since then and just got this email from Payoneer.
I think I might have closed my Appen account or unsubscribed from emails at the very least.

Should I just ignore it? Had a quick 'google' and the Annual Fee seems legit but started around 2023 possibly.

Thanks :)

I have had the same email.  I'd never, previously, heard of Payoneer and have no idea how I might ever have used it.  I did wonder if payments from Prolific might have been routed via them, but am otherwise in the dark.

I will be keeping a close watch on my bank/credit card accounts in February!

Look at your bank account DD list and check if they or similar are listed then cancel them.

Hi, thanks @JGB1955 and @Devongardener - sorry for the delay in replying, am super busy with things at the moment.

@JGB1955 - I used to do prolific surveys too but am pretty sure that payments were made via my Paypal account.

@D@Devongardener- thanks for the tip but I have changed bank accounts a few times since then (with Switching) and can't remember which one I actually used now.  I WILL be keeping an eye on any unusual debits from my accounts though, and not just in February.

If anyone else has had the Payoneer email, please reply on here

I had this last year about the charge, I signed up to it when I was doing some work from Appen. I cancelled my Payoneer account as was not using it as had no work from Appen for ages. They transferred the remaining balance to my bank account

Trouble is I don't have any Payoneer account details (if I ever had them, as it might just have been via Appen?).

I am wary about contacting them in case it is dodgy but also don't want to end up with any charges, sigh!

Also the message states that the 12-month period considered will include the time before February 23, 2026.

This sounds vague and confusing to me, so they could potentially charge me fees starting from ANY period at all, and not just from February 23rd 2026?

The charges have been in for about 2 years I think. Have you tried going on the Payoneer website and contacting them that way and ask for them to cancel your account.

I'm working on the assumption that the email was a phishing exercise. I have no intention of raising my head above the parapet by engaging with them UNTIL/UNLESS I hear more. By asking them to cancel 'my' account I would be acknowledging its existence. I don't!

This is my way of thinking too, hence the hesitation to do anything - trouble is that if they are able to take the money in any way, it sounds almost impossible to recoup it.

I'm just going to have to put my big knickers on and sit tight, ha ha
