Actually, ´speckled green’ is part of the description of Sainsbury’s ´lentilles vertes’

They are way cheaper than Puy but still more expensive than those described as merely green.  I am going to try them out although since the country of origin is not specified as France, I think I might have fallen for a marketing ploy.

I use these and really like them. They hold their shape well and are great for salads, as well as veggie shepherds pie and moussaka.

I thought I would share the following anomaly which puzzled me somewhat when I unpacked my order this evening:

It does say the local earth is the differential rather than the species: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Puy_green_lentil

So yes, fake - but as long as they have the same taste and bite I'm happy.

I thought it might have indicated tht they were packaged in Ireland but other products they sell indicate country of origin as being Myanmar

Just to say that Lidl currently has red lentils, dried chick peas and chana dhal at good prices - compared with my local Tesco, at least.

I picked up a 500g pack of red lentils in my local Lidl and then in the weekly food offers aisle I discovered a 1kg pack for the same price! I put the 500g pack back on the original shelf. It does my head in when you find random items abandoned on a shelf when a customer decides they don't want something😡

  • @button_box I did the same on Saturday night - I always upset people wandering around the store the 'wrong way' putting stuff back. Got two of the bigger packs.
