Debt being recovered by two separate companies?

Hello,
would be grateful for any advice. Self managing a DMP, all been pretty smooth. Have set up payments towards most debts. I had a 13000 loan with RBS, and there are two different companies, AIC and Zinc contacting me about the same debt. I don’t really know which to deal with.
Thanks

AIC are likely to be the new owners of the debt, and Zinc their chosen collection agency.

The letters they send you should be clear who is acting in what role.
Its quite common amongst debt purchasing companies to write to you confirming purchase of the debt, and to then advise they have assigned it to a separate company for collection.
The owner of the debt will always refer to themselves, whist the collection company will refer to "our client".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I haven’t had a letter to say the debt has been purchased, Zinc say they are instructed on behalf of their client RBS and AIC say they are working for their client NatWest.

Ah, got you, OK, NatWest are a subsidiary of RBS, there appears to have been crossed wires internally when the debt was farmed out for collection.Lettingissues77 said:I haven’t had a letter to say the debt has been purchased, Zinc say they are instructed on behalf of their client RBS and AIC say they are working for their client NatWest.
Send a complaint to NatWest/RBS explain the debt has been assigned to two separate collection agencies, which is against FCA fair debt collection practice, get them to make a decision on which one they expect to use going forward.
Neither company has any power of enforcement here, they are both just acting on behalf of the client bank in a collection capacity only.
Get them to sort themselves out and ask for £50 by way of compensation.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
