Well today is the 15th anniversary of me giving up alcohol.
I can honestly say that I have not been tempted once to drink and I still have an active social life that includes visiting licencesed premises and not being tempted.
I retired a year early from the Civil Service last year at age 59 after 37 years and I was 60 on the 13th October and have claimed my free OAP bus pass.
However this year has not been good to me health wise as I have had 3 kidney operations in 3 months - 2 on my left kidney to remove kidney stones and the last one was on my right kidney to remove a tumour.
The operation on my right kidney was done by robotic keyhole surgery so it looks like I have been bitten by a shark :) - I am now not in pain though , but have to waut another 4 weeks for the biopsy result.
Keep strong everyone and I send you all my best wishes to keep fighting the good fight !.

Thanks for dropping in, antonic. Sorry to hear about the health issues. Did they say whether not having drunk any alcohol for 15 years will have contributed to a quicker recovery? There must be a significant health benefit.
I do like reading these posts from occasional contributors who used to be on here regularly but have now moved on, given up alcohol completely, and are out on the other side.
I am at 15/27 today please cathybird. A few days ago I passed the six-month mark since I last had anything to drink. It’s not 15 years but - it’s long enough now that I am at the point where I am reasonably confident I could stop completely if I decided I wanted to. I am not totally sure that is what I would want just at this point in time but I at least know that it would be me making that decision, not the alcohol.5 -
14/25 for me today please.
Happy 15th AF anniversary @antonic , and glad to hear you are no longer in pain from the kidney issues. My SIL has just one kidney, which is just working at 15% but she manages pretty well.

They didn`t but one thing I learnt was that being a chunky monkey increased my chances of getting cancer.
Thank you for your thanks
