Pastdue credit solutions

Hi all, hopefully this will be an easy one to resolve and you’ll all reassure me that I have nothing to worry about.

I’m a man and I have never purchased anything through Tesco Mobile, subscribed to any of their services or used them for anything.

But despite this, I keep getting text messages from Pastdue, addressed to a woman called Catherine, telling her that she has an unresolved matter (presumably a debt) with Tesco Mobile.

This Catherine is no relation, doesn’t share my surname and I have no idea who she is.

So far I’ve been ignoring these messages. Should I respond and tell them I’m not this Catherine and they’ve got the wrong number? Is there a possibility my number has been cloned or this is an indication of identity theft?

all advice appreciated

I have a "Catherine" too, but her name is "Iris".

Luckily my number being contacted is a backup, never been shared with any third party ever.

Just block the number and ignore, they have either been given your number randomly by Catherine or someone has erroneously transposed a couple of digits on a form.

These "nothing to do with me" debt contacts need only be acted on if you receive communications with your name or address on them.

Mobile phone number cloning is very hard and I've not seen any reports of this actually happening - the mobile operators have systems in place that would spot such clones very quickly.

  • Your number could have been owned by this person previously. Block it, seems to be the easiest way to do.
If you want to let the sender know it is not you, then get in touch with Tesco Mobile. I would go into a larger store where they have a physical shop. That for if you want to go the extra length

Anything important will always come in a letter, and as you are not the debtor they are looking for, just continue to ignore them, its not your debt, so don`t get involved.
