Saving money on food deliveries

  • I had a Tesco delivery about a year or so ago and had forgotten to take off an item so handed it back to the driver, the driver told me that lots and lots of people do this deliberately so they don't have to spend the minimum amount, whether it's ethical or not is a different matter, I've not tried it myself.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time
  • The other option can you buy yourself one of those trolleys that you pull.
Iceland do delivery with a minimum spend of £25 but to get free delivery you have to spend £40

Co-op only requires a £15 minimum spend for home delivery. Ours doesn't have everything I might want but would cover milk, bread etc. We freeze bread and use it straight from the freezer to make toast.

It's £25 in our local Co-op, so it must vary by location.
I'd second Milk & More or similar for doorstep deliveries - there's no delivery charge and no minimum spend (although the products themselves will understandably be a bit more expensive than in your big supermarkets). Milk in real glass bottles if you want it, and they do quite a range of household staple items as well.

Thank you everyone. lots of good ideas for me to try. I'll look into seeing if I can get a milkman but meanwhile can use the garage for bread and milk. Maybe do a big shop once a month and top ups with a delivery app. Plenty of things to try and I feel a bit silly for not thinking of them myself. I do have a shopping trolley but lugging it on the busses and getting it in everyone's way may be a bit much for me but thank you for the suggestion.

  • It took me ages to get round to getting a supermarket delivery.I don't drive and husband has Parkinsons so suspect his driving days are numbered. We have a small Coop in town, a market every Thursday where I can buy eggs, veg, and cheese. There's a basic type farm shop about 10 minutes walk away too so we manage very well now.I do stock up on things like toiletries  and fruit from the cheap stall if I go into town.
