Hi, just after some general advice.
My daughter has been working at Marks and Spencer's for just under 2 months.
She has been working 3 shifts a week for average of 8 hours a shift.
She still hasn't been paid.
She has been trying to sort this out for just under a month.
HR at Marks say it's an onboarding issue and the store she works at are saying it's a HR issue.
What's the best and quickest way to get this sorted so that she can get paid?
Thanks

Has she spoken with payroll? If not she should and indicate she will make a grievance if its not paid asap. She must follow up making the grievance if not paid.adr0ck said:Hi, just after some general advice.

Raise it with store manager to get it sorted.Life in the slow lane2

I'd suggest she starts by asking HR on what date precisely she will be paid.
There are some companies whose reporting date for salaries is very early in the month and if you miss it the first salary is paid the next month, leaving a long gap.
It's also possible that someone local either didn't report her hours at the correct time, or perhaps made up the report earlier than usual to meet deadlines/cover for their own absence?
With Christmas coming as well it wouldn't be unreasonable for her to ask for an advance. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2 -
M&S outsources its payroll function, so no point trying to raise what is an HR issue with them.adr0ck said:Hi, just after some general advice.

Talk to HR - and be persistent, rather than letting herself be fobbed off.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2 -

From what I understand I think she missed the date for reporting to be paid at the beginning of November so she was told that she would be paid at the beginning of December.
She wasn't so she has been chasing.
As advised the store (I'm not sure what level manager) has been attempting to sort it out but they keep getting pushed back by HR (something to do with onboarding - she has had to take her passport in twice now).
She just seems to be stuck in the middle between the store and HR.
My guess is it's something to do with the fact that she worked at M&S at home (North Wales) and this M&S job is where she is studying at university - so the system has messed up somewhere because of this.0 -
Sounds like a SNAFU by HR not passing on information to the company operating the payroll system.2

And I'd strongly advise joining a union - while they won't give a lot of help at this stage, it can be very valuable to say "I shall have to take advice from my union".Signature removed for peace of mind3

in McDonalds there is a centralised time and attedance system which is used by both McOpCo stores and franchise stores
consequently some people exist several times on the system as they work at different stores with different Franchises / McOpCO regions in term time and in the holidays
i do wonder if the M+S scenario is down to trying to create 2 different people with the same details or having two different 'homes' in the system on one account2 -
There may be some misunderstanding there.adr0ck said:

She probably missed the payroll cutoff in Nov and was told she would hit it in Dec to be paid end of Dec not that she would be paid at the start of the month.
Can she ask a colleague (or 3) as to when in the mo th they get paid and work from there0 -
payroll dates and cuts should be explictily communicated and are often available on internal information systems even if apparnetly straightforwardLightFlare said:
