Old Black Horse debt..

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can please give me some advice. Over 25 yrs ago I took out car finance with Black Horse. After many money troubles and a marriage break down a charge was placed on our mortgage from Black Horse for repayment of the loan when and if the house was sold. We finally sold the house in 2022 and the charge came up. I called Black Horse who then advised me the the debt has been passed on the another company who I then called to establish what the status of the debt was. The company then informed that that there was no debt and it had been 'written off'. I informed the solicitor of this and the sale of the house went through. Now after hearing absolutely nothing for many many years, out of the blue Cabot started chasing me (for a couple of years now but I have been ingoring them . Now Cabot are threatening to send an Orbit agent to my door.... Please can anyone give me any kind of advice on this where I stand?
Much appreciated.

Don't worry about Orbit, treat them like you would a double glazing salesperson, Thank you but no thank you, no problem if you just ignore them and don't answer the door. They are only door knockers not bailiffs.
My guess is Cabot are taking the date of sale in 2022 as the date they are working from and trying to say it isn't statute barred, ignore them.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -

This must have been in writing, or the solicitor would have been unlikely to take your word for it. If you still have that now, it would be good to dig this out.
When there is a charge on a house, a debt never becomes statute barred. But you are entitled to reply on what you were told, that it was written off.0 -
I think you do need to engage with Cabot (not Orbit, they are a waste of time) and send a prove-it letterskdhenderson said:Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can please give me some advice. See what comes back, whether itvis what you think it is and what Cabot believe there is in place regarding the debt. There certainly isn't a legal charge! But they may never have known that there was one0
