Morning again, I think it's dry outside whoohoo! Yesterday wasn't though, plenty of rain.
Rosy, you're a mind reader, yes, it was mince pies. That pastry recipe is really good, it really is the 'best mince pie pastry' I think that was what I was going to say.
TA, sorry you're feeling a bit off, hope you aren't coming down with something.
I suffer from the glooms sometimes at this time of year, most of my close family died between November and January ( in different years of course!) and I think about them.
I'm struggling with what to buy the youngest dgs for Christmas, it's difficult because the children have so much stuff, and we think they get far too much at Christmas. They hardly know what what you've given them among the rest of the stuff. I know a lot of grandparents think that. I may be being a bit of a misery about this I know. We don't say anything of course, in the interests of family harmony. I've asked dd for suggestions and am waiting for her to get back to me.
Not a lot on today, just the usual jobs.
Glad the bairn has picked up Dp1.
Hope everyone else is all right, take care folks.12 -
Morning all, thanks for the start @Scarlet. Yes, Christmas is not always the joyous time it's marketed as. Whilst I haven't lost anyone at this time of year it's certainly when memories of whole my family crowd my mind. It's not easy.My trip to the wee craft market was fine. There were some really lovely though mostly expensive things which I didn't buy. I succumbed to a couple of fab hand made cards which had foraged plants and flowers along with some tasty South African biscuits and pastries. Had a cup of tea with good friends and mostly chatted. The weather was so foul that the drive home took a bit longer.Today I have no real plans apart from not going to my exercise class. Can't be doing disrupting it so much with comings and goings, I'll do a few of them here to keep me oiled! Then I have the weekly banking to sort, need to move monies around to cover the credit card bill coming up. After that I'll watch some recorded programmes and avoid thinking about SCD. 😂
No more liver left so I now have some belly pork strips to roast and I'll also roast some sprouts and cauliflower. The weather sounds wild so I'll be staying put. I hope that everyone has a good day. Stay warm and well.11 -
Morning everyone I’m off out to meet up with my friend a coffee and a natter will sort the day out . I had a day like you YL yesterday I sat and watched it’s a wonderful life it was as good as ever it never fails and we have also had fireworks just random ones late at night in the pouring down rain morons . It has to stay dry for most of today but then we have rain and wind for the rest of the week I just we could see some daylight. Thinking of all the poorlies hugs to those that need them have a good day everyone whatever you are doing11

Morning all and thanks for the start @ScarletRibbons x.Sorry I missed your birthday @Chriscs50 - hope you had a good day xx
I am off to T’s for our weekly shop this morning. I have a money off coupon plus have some vouchers we’ve save up all year. I am strangely excited given our shop of choice is A!di which is fine but limited in choice. I’ve also sold some books to an online store, so need to drop them off at the parcel locker.
We watched a film last night - The Roses - with Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch. Very odd and sweary - would not recommend!
Have a good day everyone.CoxyCross-stitch WIP: Haberdashery Shop Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 25/25 Currently reading Guilty by Definition by Susie Dent11 -

The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown:
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
Sweet singing in the choir❄️🎀✨🎄☃️🎄✨🎀❄️
Morning! Still haven't got a tree, or decorated but they are strewn all over the floor, the cats like chasing the mouse toy under the tinsel
Maybe today..I have something to post so have to go out, and there's exra garlic and parmesan mash to do something with tonight, maybe I'll make some croquettes or something...If it stays dry I'll drop the cardboard off at the allotment, can't put a tree in the boot when that's in there. Bit of a meh day so far, it may stay that way..Izzy, I love that film and try and watch it every year, along with Die Hard
have a nice natter. Scarlet, we talk about this sometimes with OHs mum. His niece and nephew get so much throughout the year that Christmas is just another present fest where they don't know or appreciate much what they get if that makes sense. It's not really special apart from the glitz that surrounds it. Which is another reason why there's no point trying to go all out special and get kids lots of stuff and spend money, get into debt etc...I'm beginning to sound like a grumpy old woman too
Gers sounds nice though, Ihaving said all that above, I love a good christmas/gift market
Right, get well anyone who has the lurgy...have a good day if you can!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12 -
Morning All
Thanks for the start Scarlet, hope you come up with some inspiration.
The rain has hammered down all night, woke me up a couple of times. Seems calm at the moment but I'm sure there's plenty more rain to come.
Washing all dried inside yesterday, just the quilt cover still airing over the bannister.
Belated birthday wishes Chrisca, hope you enjoyed your celebrations.
Fingers crossed the little one can enjoy the last couple of weeks at school without problems dp1.
I gutted the living room over the weekend and moved furniture about only to put it all back as it was! Lots of 'stuff' decluttered from there and the kitchen, a CS trip will happen today at some point.
Need to go and buy paint for the laundry today ready to start the woodwork, I can do little bits at a time. There are 3 oak doors that will be painted white, need to put the blocking paint on first which is a bit messy.
The little one is going back to school today after a week off unwell, she's desperate to get back as she's the narrator in the Nativity and needs to practise!
Hope you are all well and have a good day. Take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks SCARLET. It's fine here for now but no doubt rain will arrive on the scene at some point.
I am feeling marginally better today after my few days of being off it so the present wrapping really must start, despite still waiting for some stuff to arrive. I had an email from RM saying it would be delivered tomorrow but as I shall be out I have postponed the delivery date to Wednesday.
.
Have a lovely day folks if you can with ((HUGS)) for our poorlies, sad or lonely. I hope those getting better are still getting better! Take care all, be safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"9 -
Morning all
Dry here for now but more rain due later we have loads of flooding locally with roads shut which is causing chaos. I’m off to mums today and we are going to get the Christmas meat, I have to go for a blood test on the way to test for gout, if it’s not that then I will have to have an x- ray to see what’s causing the pain.
I booked a couple of things for when we are in Venice on a Black Friday deal, the first one is a Vivaldi four seasons concert in an old church and the second one is a tour of the prison and torture chamber, this is the prison that Casanova was kept in and escaped from, I am very much looking forward to both.
Dinner tonight will be hm chicken Kiev with mash and veg, dd is off so will probably prepare some of it, I will be home by three so can do some prep then if needs be.
The tree is up and decorated, I have a few more presents to wrap and then I am done, apart from a food shop nearer the time.
Have good days all and take care xx10 -
Taff, I sound like a grumpy old so and so on the subject of Christmas gifts for the 2 youngest grandchildren, I know I do, but it grieves me to see the amount off stuff they get, then the next day they probably wouldn't remember who gave them what.
As you say, it's not special any more. One of them has a birthday in January, but I don't buy 'big' presents for birthdays.
Right, I'll give it a rest now!!9
