Frustration with HMRC.

I thought I'd sorted out my tax affairs for this year, but alas no.
I receive a civil service pension, and it seems HMIT had received information which indicated I receive two pensions from them, which I don't. I ended up ringing HMIT twice, twice because the first person I dealt with turned out to be an incompetent fool, who messed up my tax and tax code status even more than it was already messed up. The second person I dealt with was marginally better, but that's not much of a recommendation. She told me I would have to ring Civil Service pensions and ask them to rectify things. For some reason HMIT could not do this.
Anyway, I rang Civil Service pensions (03001236666) and after waiting nearly THREE HOURS, somebody answered, to acknowledge a mistake had been made. However, because I'd waited so long, my mobile credit ran out, and I was suddenly cut off!
I hate them all, and the beginning of my New Year, could not have had a worse start. That said, I suppose when you think about all those poor people in Switzerland, it puts things into perspective.0 -

So it wasn't HMRC's fault but the fault of Civil Service Pensions.whattochoose said:I thought I'd sorted out my tax affairs for this year, but alas no.

No, it wasn't the fault of HMRC that the problem began. But, having contacted them for help and clarification, it didn't help that the first person I spoke to inexplicably and wrongly decided to add over £15000 to my estimated income for 2025/26, and that the second person I spoke to dissembled and tried attempts at gaslighting in an attempt, I guess, to save face for her colleague and her department.sheramber said:

They're all appalling.0 -
Civil Service Pensions have large long standing problems which have not been helped by the fact the outsourced firm responsible for running it changed in December 25, leading to even more issues.whattochoose said:

It doesn't matter whose fault it is......
We should be able to speak to someone with a reasonable level of knowledge in a reasonable amount of time if we feel the need,0 -
Having, many years ago, been employed by HMRC, I remember that threats by taxpayers to contact their Member of Parliament about their grievances sometimes proved to be a positive thing for them to do.
This is something I'll be doing, even if only for the cathartic effect it may have on me.0 -
When I worked for HMRC we advised taxpayers to contact their MP , when we were as frustrated as them by lack of action.

Thank you. You've hardened my resolve.sheramber said:When I worked for HMRC we advised taxpayers to contact their MP , when we were as frustrated as them by lack of action.0 -
Getting through to HMRC is bad enough, but Civil Service Pensions are truly appalling,
If I google opening times, it shows 9am.
However, I thought I'd ring them at 8.30am and see what happens. I received the message I was at 72 in the waiting line!
So, rang again dead on 9, receive message I was at 52.
I've made a complaint to my Member of Parliament, and have opened a portal account with CSP, so will try to get through to somebody that way.0
