Not necessarily. My mates wife travels to London city airport on a Mon morning and flies back up to GLA Fri afternoon being doing this since 2007.FunLovinCriminal said:Thanks, no we are on the west coast of scotland, head office is london. I cant relocate and the commute would be daft.
I have the urge to leave, and thought cyber security would be a growth career to get into.
Any other suggestions for a 51yr old who needs a fresh start?
What sort of salary are you hoping for?Posting for 21 years...https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/profile/27233/ohreally0 -
Of course it CAN be done, but working away from Monday to Friday can have a brutal effect on family life, and the OP didn't say how old the children were, nor how much he currently keeps the wheels on the family bus moving in his current job.ohreallƳ said:

Lots of people have an interest in IT, but that doesn't mean they would actually enjoy a career working in IT, especially if they don't really know what it would entail or which area they think they'd like to work in.FunLovinCriminal said:I have always had an interest in IT, but mostly self taught. Fell into a phone shop and stayed.
My concern is more and more folk buy phones online, so longetivity isnt there.
I suppose thats going to be the same in lots of jobs.
Any IT jobs I should be looking at?
You're obviously thoroughly fed up where you are, but could you at least mitigate that by changing to another employer/type of business?
Alternatively, is there any scope for becoming self employed and offering services that people actually need and will pay for, albeit they might not be at the glamour end of things? Your location might limit that, but things like competent 'odd job men' (worth their weight in gold) with basic maintenance skills are often hard to find.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
