Holiday pay

I work for a small business and work 20 hours a week term time only. Each month I get asked for my hours for that calendar month and paid for those but when I asked about my holiday pay I was asked to look for one of those online calculators to figure it out. I’m worried I miscalculate it and leave myself short or (equally as bad) tell my employer the wrong amount.

Could someone guide me on how to figure this out please. I just want paying for my holidays.

I suggest running things through the gov.uk holiday calculator.  If you enter everything correctly but get the wrong answer at least then you would have a good defence!!

Shouldnt  your employer be doing this for you?
  • I did ask if payroll could look at it but don’t think I got a specific response

The legal minimum is 12.5% of total pay.

Either add up your hours and multiply by 12.5% or add up your pay and multiply by 12.5%

What does your contract say about bank holidays?

I thought it was 12.07%? (Corrected)

However, it surely depends on what entitlement a FT person would have?

My employer was more generous that statutory minimum, so the calculation was x 13.8% or similar.

I am, frankly, appalled that the employer requires you to do it. I'd politely bat it back and state that you will happily self-calculate if they give you the equation.

Are you in a union? If yes, ask them about this, and if not, join ...

You are right on the percentage for statutory holiday entitlement.

As you indicate, that is to two decimal places.  I have worked for an organisation which went to 3 decimal places, which got us to 12.069%
