Cancelling a buy now pay later policy?
Just bought a fridge freezer out of comet and have been disapointed with the service.
We bought it on buy now pay later for 5 months and have been advised that to get this we must take out a warranty we felt pushed into this so agreed. We know you can phone up and cancel and thats it but i feel annoyed to get pushed into this and also added charges such as £50 for delivery and £7.50 to recycle my older freezer.
Can i cancel a credit agreement within 24 hours? On the credit agreement it says it is not cancellable under the consumer credit act 1974 but i was under the impression you got 24 hours? Please can sombody help feel !!!!ed off and feel forced into this by comet wont be back again the cheek to i have already been in and bought a microwave from them today to then be forced to take out somthing i never wanted just to get buy now pay later.
Thanks

If you have signed the agreement on dealer premises you have no cancellation rights.Just bought a fridge freezer out of comet and have been disapointed with the service.

I want it but didn't like there attitude they said to me you have to take out the warranty else we wont give you the 5 months interest free you scratch my managers back and he'll scratch yours.0 -
Hi Shamish,
I am not entirely sure your your rights but why don't you give
Consumer Direct a call? They should be able to help you, it's awful when you put under pressure like that to buy the warranty. I remember buying a PC in Dixons and both the salesperson and the manager went on at me for nearly an hour to get the warranty. I managed to stand my ground and say no but it was like torture!
http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/contactSecond and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -
The warranty will be a separate policy that can be cancelled within 28 days. Just check the policy wording and phone and cancel. Simple.Don't lie, thieve, cheat or steal. The Government do not like the competition.

I worked for Comet for five years and yes you can cancel the warranty. The warranties are issued by another company-not Comet. Never be pushed into a warranty as close to the end of the first year you will be sent a renewal from the insurance company anyway asking if you want to extend for another year. The sales staff are given percentage targets on goods to warranties (luckily I was admin and so it didn't apply to me). Every morning they have meetings and they are given their performance so far and told they must must do more-I guess like any target driven job would be.
As to whether you needed to take out a warranty for buy now pay later, I would only make sure you check that the buy now offer wasn't over a certain amount ie; spend over £500 and get 6 months BNPL. We did occassionally have to sell warranties or another product to enable someone to have that facility.
We did have customers return to cancel credit agreements and to be completely honest it depended on which manager was on duty. One did everything totally by the book, one would listen to things customers had to say and one would do anything providing he didn't have to get up off his chair! If you do go ahead with this make sure you do pay the fridge off at the end of the BNPL as the interest rates are sky high.
Have you taken delivery of the fridge yet?0 -
Generally the big stores really push these extra warranty things on you, currys, pc world etc. I bought a £25 printer last year from currys and the woman was determined to flog me 3 year cover costing £14. Absolute joke, she was so desperate she kept lowering the price down to £7 which I guess was a big chucnk of cash from her pocket. I ended up swearing at her and walking out the shop. If I dont want it I dont want it and don t expect to be harassed.
As has been said just ring up and cancel it, not like there gonna demand the machine back.0
