National Insurance class 3 contributions

Hello
I can’t quite believe that it’s taking a year for the government to set up a direct debit mandate to pay class 3 NI contributions, I sent the form off in April according to their website this should have been actioned 23rd September, which is just a ridiculous time frame for a simple task.  I’ve just had a web chat with an advisor who said he would raise a referral and that it had been sent to another department, wouldn’t say which department! And couldn’t give me anymore information about when this will be set up. I’m flabbergasted by this and can’t understand why it is taking so long. Has anyone else experienced this?

Because it's a paper form based system rather than an automated online process. There's a huge backlog and others are reporting delays of 40+ weeks.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Anything done by the computer is almost instantaneous, bring a human into the equation and you are looking at the best part of a year for action.

Quick credit for NI payments can happen. I paid my 2024/2025 voluntary Class 2 NI in October by wire transfer and its already on my HMRC online NI contributions record.
And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
