Yes,
I bought a lovely looking mixer valve online cheap in a sale. It looked great, solid and beautifully made. Paperwork said "suitable for combi boiler". Unfortunately I did not invest in a mounting kit. Being a plumbing numpty I went round all the plumber's merchants in the locale ( about 6 all told) and received a few whistling teeth noises and blank looks.
I used fibre washers to try and set the pipe adapters as best I could. I sealed the joints with sealing compound. I used a couple of brass tap adapters (right angle to fix taps to walls) to secure the whole thing to a soild wall. I build pipework and used flexible connectors to connect to the supply (allowing for angles and adjustments). Lots of odd angles and nothing straight.
I then boxed it all in with a ply over the top and tiled over this.
Anyway after the nightmare of connecting and fixing.
It works like a dream and can't say I've ever used a better thermostatic mixer and a bargin for £100 or so. Depending on the price I'd have no problem having one installed.
I once had a Mira one installed by a major energy supplier. The valve alone cost £350!!!!. This was over a decade ago.
I may be able to dig out the pics. PM if you want.0
