Hi All, (sorry if this isn't the right forum section!)
I've just received my tax bill to be paid by Jan 31 2026 which is normal. This promoted me to login to HMRC to check my situation. I'm self-employed and just need one more year of NI to get my full allowance. When completing my tax return I used the 'Pay voluntary class 2 NIS' option as my earnings were very low.

When checking my NI Record I was disappointed to see this for the last year:
"2024 to 2025 Year is not full
This year is not included in your State Pension forecast because your record needs updating.
Contact HMRC to update this tax year"

Can anyone explain why that might be? Are they still updating things as everything seems late this year?
It looks like contacting HMRC can only be done by phone and see people having to hold on for hours to get through!
Thanks.

I had that for several years, it won't ever update until you contact them.

Livechat on the HMRC site worked well for me, less annoying than waiting in a phone queue. Click digital assistant near the top, ask to speak to a human. National Insurance: enquiries - GOV.UK

I would expect it is because they are getting even further behind.  My simple assessment still hasn't come & apart from last year it has always been here by July.  Last year I didn't get it until January, so not holding my breath.

I've managed to contact HMRC via Twitter (working on a Saturday!).
They are saying I can ignore that message and it will update once I've paid my tax bill.
I'm happy with that, if they're correct  :)

UPDATE: After paying my outstanding tax bill the NIS "contact HMRC..." message has gone and my record correctly updated  :)

Thank you for posting the outcome. You have provided (hopefully) an answer to my situation. Most people don't bother to come back and close out the thread so thanks for doing that it has helped me and hopefully saved me wasting my time contacting HMRC.
