Lost pension

Hi, i really hope someone can help me with this. I had a pension with M.E.B. (Midlands Electricity Board - although i was with E.M.E.B.) back in the 80s between 1982 and late 88/early 89.
Ive been through the government website amd it lead me to a company but they say they sold the pension pot in 1990 and have no records of who it was sold to, although they did put my work ID number in the heading of the email response, so they have a record of me somewhere. I have no idea of how I can track this pension. Can anyone help, please?
And just to reiterate, the government website doesn't help.
Many thanks 😊

A company selling a pension pot in 1990 sounds very unlikely.
Maybe they sold the subsidiary company you worked for and transferred a pension scheme (or part of the scheme) along with it. But unless they got rid of the whole scheme it is unlikely your benefits would have been transferred since you weren't working for the subsidiary at the time.
Are you still in touch (or can you get in touch) with any old work colleagues (or a union) who may know what happened and have useful contact details.0 -
Maybe this will give you some ideas

This was (presumably) a defined benefit occupational pension with GMP?
If it was "sold" presumably this would have been to an insurance company providing a S32 policy that could protect the GMP?
Otherwise, is it worth checking with BROADSTONE?

A quick google threw up this AI -
East Midlands Electricity Pension Scheme
The East Midlands Electricity Pension Plan was closed to new members on 1 April 2005. The assets and liabilities were transferred to the E.ON UK Group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme, and members became part of the EMEPP Category of that Scheme. The EMEPP Category has now been replicated in the Uniper Group of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme, providing an identical benefit structure for colleagues becoming part of the Uniper business from 1 October 2015.
I also found this on the The Electricity Supply Pension Scheme website which gives some contact details that might help.

All part of the privatisation of the UK electricity industry - and your pension might have gone AWOL, but it's not lost and gone!Greg_J said:Hi, i really hope someone can help me with this. Have a look at https://www.pensions-ombudsman.org.uk/sites/default/files/decisions/PO-18467.pdf and read 4. and 5. on page 1 for a reassuring summary (at least I hope it is) of what happened to your pension. The n head to https://www.espspensions.co.uk/#useful-documentation and on to https://www.espspensions.co.uk/~/media/document-libraries/esps/2025/group_contact_details.pdf?la=en&hash=36EF23B9CFC580387FD8EDFACF32E8AA86F99DD2
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
I was with EMEB from 1866 then MEB from 1980. My pension is paid by National Grid.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

That should have built up an interesting entitlement....!Robin9 said:I was with EMEB from 1866 then MEB from 1980. My pension is paid by National Grid.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2 -
Thank you all for your time and comments.
I've tried going thru ES Pensions but hit a brick wall.
I'll check the other suggested routes.
Thank you all again, it's very much appreciated.1
