DMP and irresponsible lending complaints

Thank you to everyone who gave me advice regarding my earlier post, I hope you don't mind but I need a bit more info if anyone can help id be very grateful.
So I posted last week about having £43k of debt ( take full responsibility of bad money management) racked up after separating from my husband. So I received the good news that I can work Saturdays which gives me a surplus over around £380 after my priority payments are made so I've decided to enter a DMP which as I've come to understand through reading various posts is to wait for defaults, save the surplus and then once defaulted come up with a realistic payment plan to each creditor, the question is at what point should I send my complaints off? All my accounts are currently up to date as I'm robbing Peter to pay Paul, so to speak! So just wanted to know when's the time to send complaints now or at the default stage? Thank god for this forum it's been no end of help to me, thank you

I think soon, I dont think there is any need to wait for defaults. But your top priority is to stop making the unaffordable payments, so dont delay this while you make complaints
  • Thank you @manyways I'll send them off today, yes I've cancelled DDs and opened a Monzo account, i feel so anxious about not paying! Hope you have a great day and thanks for replying

I can’t be of any practical help as I’m new to all this too.  However, I can relate to the anxiety of not paying, it scared me when it was initially suggested as it goes against everything we believe to be right.  I am learning though and hopefully we can both share our journey to encourage and support each other.

Find a little bit of joy in every day.

  • Hi @RhiBi, thank you for such a sweet message, I just assumed everyone was going to think I'm an awful person for not paying my debts, my friends and family have no idea my situation as i feel so embarrassed and stupid to have got here! but this forum has been so great in making me realise I've made some stupid decisions with my finances but I'm not a terrible person, yes I'd love to keep in contact and help each other through the journey,  thank you

Hi, I have a similar amount of debt to you and I think at a similar stage with no defaults due to fiddling money around and have just 'made' my first round of missed payments in October. I've sent off my affordability complaints over the last couple of weeks rather than wait for defaults and a couple of them have accepted already allowing me to clear 5k of debt so my advice would be get it done and keep the momentum going!

  • @Always_Fishing Thank you for the reply,  thats great news! You must be pleased to have a result so quickly! I've just sent mine off so fingers crossed 🤞
