Think it's only on some train lines in Wales

I had a very pleasant surprise yesterday when travelling from Aberdare to Port Talbot. I hadn't booked my ticket in advance for the trip as I wan't sure what time I'd be travelling.
When I got to the ticket office and asked for the ticket I was asked if I had a Concessionary bus pass (available in Wales for everyone over 60, plus a few other groups).
As it happened I did have my bus pass with me and the gentleman told me that by splitting my ticket from Aberdare to Bridgend and then Bridgend to Port Talbot I could save a third on the cost of the Aberdare to Bridgend part of the trip - result instead of the journey costing £14.20 I got mine for £9.50.
When I met him later my mate said his wife had a similar find on Friday but that was only for 2 stops - my next step is to find out the extent of the routes covered by this offer - anyone have any thoughts than that it is perhaps only affecting the Valley line services?

Transport for Wales have some information here

Look after this scheme, something similar in (what was) Strathclyde Region was recently changed from a £2 flat fare to a 1/3 discount, what many people already get with a railcard.1
