How to set up council tax (Sheffield, moving into first hosue)

Set up most bills and me and my partner are struggling how to figure out how to setup paying our council tax. Been told to wait for them to write to us with the next bill but obviously this won’t be addressed to us so legally we couldn’t open it because we haven’t registered it with the council.
Some people have said used the moving in section on the council website but it does ask for an account number on there but we don’t have an account number because it’s our first house and not registered an account yet on the council website.
There’s no clear instruction on what to do to proceed with this. So what do we do? Again it’s our first house together moving from parents where they were paying the council at their own house so we’re not moving an account over.

Have you rung the council to ask what to do? Or were they the ones that said to wait for a bill to be sent?
If the council writes but doesn't know your names then the letter will likely be addressed to "the occupant". And you should open it. In fact it's not illegal to open post that is not addressed to you as long as it's to your address.
The alternative might to be to try to do something else on the council website like report bins not being collected or something random. You may be able to get yourself registered that way and then use that registration to deal with the taxes!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Hopefully the people tat moved out told the council which means you'll get a letter addressed to The Occupant asking for your details of those over 16yrs, on receipt of that they'll send a bill, don't panic, it'll take a while."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1

I always send an email in, although I noticed lots of councils hide their email addresses these days.
Just give them a call, they can take your details and move in dates over the phone and then the bill will come addressed to you. You can usually set up your DD over the phone as well.
Remember you can choose to pay by direct debit over 12 months rather than the usual 10 they offer, if you want to£12k in 25 #14 £15,140.07/£18k 24 #14 £15,653.11/£18k 23 #14 £17,195.80/£18k 22 #20 £23,024.86/£23k1 -
