I agree - just a smidgen over 11.5 mins! Worked it out the same way. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Yip, I agree it's 11.5 mins
BTW, it's my Mum driving car B!!!!!!!!0 -
head hurts.Nerdy Comper since 2005:D0

I divided 48 miles per hour by 60 minutes then times'd by 35 miles travelled and did the same with the 38 miles per hour, worked out at 28 minutes and 22.16 minutes making around 6 minutes later.
I started the same, dividing 48 miles per hour by 60 minutes to work out how far he would go in a minute
But then I didn't multiply by 35, instead i divided 35 miles by the speed per minute (0.8miles per minute) and got the time it would take car a to drive 35 miles - 43.75 minutes
I did nearly the same with car b - working out it's speed per minute, but then multiplied that by 43.75 (the time car a had been going to get to 35 miles) so I could see that Car B had got to 27.69 miles.
Then I calculated the distance between 35 miles and 27.69 and worked out that car b would have 7.31 (rounded up) miles to go to catch up, and divided that by it's speed per minute (0.63) to see how long it would take. (11.55 minutes).
LOL! I would be interested to see which of us are right!

It's 11.5 mins:
My bro says to me:
think about the units... 48mph/60 x 35 miles = 28 miles squared per hour!
miles/mph = hours, so it's 35/48 not 35x480 -
11 minutes 30 seconds 789 milliseconds
car A stops after 43 mins 45 seconds
In that time car B has driven 27.7 miles, so has to travel another 7.29 miles
It can do that in 11.5... minutes.0 -
I got my brother a mensa desk calendar for xmas off that site :rotfl::rotfl: A puzzle a day0

Cool - I am going with my answer then, as it seems to be the prevailing one now.
