Price or quality - they are unlikely to beat supermarkets on both combinedbecause supermarkets sell some items as loss leaders and smaller local producers probably can’t compete with that.

yes in a mainly rural county like Dorset all the farm shops I have seen stock expensive goods, not stuff that they have grown. Probably due to all the tourists. Many years ago there was one outside Gloucester that sold sacks of carrots etc, presumably grown by them. Wish there was one of them near me.
