Lunch at work

I bring my own lunch because it's more filling and nutritious, but to achieve that it costs more. People's appetites vary considerably, but if you want a larger portion of protein then generally that isn't cheap.MyRealNameToo said:
Not if you take QrizB's approach, would be cheaper but neither more filling nor nutritious especially if it's the same thing you eat 5 days a week every week.thriftylass said:Your own will always be cheaper, more nutritious and filling. Especially a lot cheaper if you include a coffee.2 -
nothing free in nhs and even canteen pretty expensive now though subsidised a little for staff. Take own sandwiches etc.3

Not only is it expensive, but Costa and WHSmiths have scooped up the NHS Trust franchises if you want non-canteen food. The only healthy aspect to it is the profit delivered to the retailers.Clowance said:nothing free in nhs and even canteen pretty expensive now though subsidised a little for staff. I much prefer working form home for many reasons but a big further advantage is that I can have a hot lunch in peace - I've never been one for either lunch or hot food but I have to agree it makes a difference when the temperature drops. I have just enjoyed a kidney bean curry dragged out of the freezer with bulgur wheat - delicious! But I wouldn't want to inflict the smell on others.

So much to read, so little time.1 -
I've just found a blue and yellow shop called greggs which does cheaper food and drink than costa and nero.
I also noticed an orange shop called wendals I think that looks similar.
I bought a full lunch for 4.90 with a hot drink, pizza and Christmas cake slice.. in costa a coffee alone is 40 -
I find Wenzels expensive at £1.25 for a jam doughnut, however they are very nice.

I loved Wenzel's TGTG bags, plenty of goodies to share round. Unfortunately both branches in Southend closed, to be replaced by other bakeries.Clowance said:I find Wenzels expensive at £1.25 for a jam doughnut, however they are very nice.No man is worth crawling on this earth.

I’ve found it way cheaper to make my own lunches. I usually prep a couple of simple meals (sandwiches, pasta, or leftovers) and pack them in meal prep containers with separate sections so everything stays fresh and not mixed together. Supermarket meal deals add up fast, but prepping at home saves a surprising amount over the week, plus it’s way less stressful.0
