I early retired cos I am mentally and physically fubarred, but not physically fubarred enough to get PIP I dont think

Anyway, I am living on my early retirement tax free pension lump sum and my private pension and my savings.

My savings are greater than 16K.

Are there any other benefits that would make me want to apply for UC because I will not be getting any dole money from UC?

Thanks.

National Insurance contributions? Obviously if you already have enough years for a full pension then that isn't a concern but I do know of someone in a similar position who "signed on" just to get the NI credits but had no intention of getting a job (they also had been made redundant so didn't qualify for UC).
  • I'm in exactly the same position. 62 with another 5 years until pension but left my NHS job as I was mentally done by the job and now physically done in too. Also over the savings limit. I tried for PIP as I have PTSD/Arthritis etc etc but hey - no banana...so unless as the previous poster stated, you sign for NI conts you are eligible for precisely squat sadly :(

Have you looked at a possible ill health early retirement pension from the NHS? https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/member-hub/applying-ill-health-pension-benefits
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

As you correctly states, you will not be entitled to UC because you have more than £16,000 in capital.

You can look at claiming New style ESA if you have the correct NI contributions from the previous 2 tax years. This isn't means tested so your capital will not affect it.

Any pension you receive of up to £85/week will be ignored. For every £1 over that amount the ESA reduces by 50p/week. You will need to provide fit notes if you apply. https://www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/eligibility
