LGPS CPI PENSIONS UPLIFT

Hi,

If i retire on 31 May 2026, how do i calculate the CPI Uplift for 26/27?

Also, would my Pension increase in the 25/26 tax year?

Thanks

Are you an active or a deferred member (and if the latter, when did you leave active membership of the scheme)...?

Your pension will therefore increase in line with the above.

If a pay increase isn't agreed and awarded by April 2026, but is agreed after you retire in May, you will need to request any uplift in any lump sum and pension payments, they won't be paid automatically.

The first pension increase after leaving active service is pro-rated for the complete number of months between leaving and the increase date (= first Monday of the tax year). However you don't lose the CARE in service revaluation for the final part year either, it just get it applied once you are already in payment. So,
    • 6/4/26, your CARE pension is revalued as normal
    • 31/5/26, your total CARE pension on retiring is the previous figure + your 26/27 accrual, i.e. your actual pay 1/4/26-31/5/26 x 1/49
    • 6/4/27 is the next CARE revaluation date; at this point you should get a little extra bit of pension for your final part year CARE revaluation. Thereafter, CARE revaluation dates are irrelevant to you.
    • 12/4/27 (= first Monday of the tax year) will be your first pensions increase date. The increase applicable will be pro-rated for the number of complete months since leaving, i.e. will be the Sept 2026 CPI figure x 10/12.
