What does your contract say?
It's that simple: if your terms and conditions state that you may be required to work at a different store, then working elsewhere is definitely on the cards.
And if you have a layoff clause, then you can be 'laid off' without pay.
It would be a rare employer who would pay you for two months when there is no work available.
And are you in a union? If so, talk to them.Signature removed for peace of mind1 -
lay off or shifts at another location is typical practise in such cases, especially when alternative locations are 'reasonable' and 'practical'0

Read your contract, most do allow them to move you to another site temporarily and some will consider expenses for any additional costs of commuting given its a temporary arrangement.melanie17 said:Store closed for refit can employer make you work at different store or take unpaid as 2 months a long time without pay anyone any advice on what should happen1 -
You can lay off an employee (ask them to stay at home or take unpaid leave) when you temporarily cannot give them paid work - as long as the employment contract allows this.
Statutory guarantee paymentsEmployees are entitled to these if you do not provide them with a full day’s work during the time they’d normally be required to work. The maximum payment is £31 a day for 5 days (£155) in any 3 months. If employees usually earn less than £31 a day, they’ll get their usual daily rate. For part-time workers, the rate is worked out proportionally.Employees can claim a redundancy payment from you if the lay-off or short-time working runs for:4 or more weeks in a row6 or more weeks in a 13 week period, where no more than 3 are in a row
