Thanks. Not lentils but some beans, chickpeas and peas. I believe there is a difference between protein from veg and non-veg, but really I just wanted to suggest that protein shakes - or at least basic ones like I was nearly tempted by - aren't great value.0 -
There's very little protein in a bananaSaver73 said:Interesting ...
I eat a mostly vegetarian diet, and dairy particularly milk is a good protein source.
Perhaps surprisingly too bananas are a good protein source and good for energy levels.
In autumn / winter I like porridge and banana.0 -
Sounds like the term "good source" is being used/understood differently.Daz2009 said:

Bananas aren’t high in protein (agreed), but Saver73 never said they were, only that they consider them a "good" source. For example, something like pork belly or even a chocolate bar might contain more protein, but that doesn’t necessarily make them a good protein source.I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!0 -
You can't be serious......if someone asks what's a good source of protein the answer would be red meat, chicken, fish, nuts, something along those lines,no one would suggest a banana lol, especially when the OP is asking how to increase their protein intake.singhini said:

Bananas are a good food, I eat one every day,but not for it's tiny protein content2 -

Hopefully, to put the banana to bed, typically one banana contains:- around 100 calories
- around 27g carbohydrates
- around 1 g protein
- around 0.4 g fat
For a healthy individual, a typical balanced diet would aim for:- 50% carbohydrates
- 30% fat
- 20% protein

Saver73 said banana is a good source of protein
Daz2009 said there's very little protein in a banana
i'm suggesting there different things - that is "good" and "little" are differentYour correct, Banana is not as good source or protein as red meat (but a banana is a good source of protein when compared to other things like say a milky way chocolate bar)Banana perhaps has 1g of protein versus perhaps 4g in a Milky Way (i would still opt for the banana than the Milky Way)
I've got to be careful here when i'm agreeing with you when i say your correct a good source of protein is red meat. Because a vegan might say eating meat is immoral because it causes enormous suffering and death to sentient beings for no necessity, only preference (and unnecessary harm is ethically indefensible). Therefore red meat is not a good source of protein.
EDIT1: Perhaps a banana isn't a "great source" but a banana is a "good source" when compared to other things (great being volume and good being quality).
EDIT2: Perhaps its me and how i interpreted Saver73 writing "good source" and Daz2009 writing "little protein" (my interpretation of what a word or phrase means might differ from the standard or commonly accepted meaning).I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!0 -
Thinking about it, red meat may be a bad source of protein (animals are sentient, eating meat causes harm, factory farming causes large scale suffering, environmental damage, immoral).
can I ask what your thoughts are about a vegan saying that red meat isn’t actually a good source of protein? Do you think they have a point? And if their argument about ethics is valid, does that mean red meat isn’t just not a good source, but actually a bad one?I have a tendency to mute most posts so if your expecting me to respond you might be waiting along time!0 -
OP, why not get some vegan protein powder, you don't have to have it in a shake, I add it to milk and pour it on my Weetabix.....other cereals are available
