In approx June this year i took a job on PAYE at lets call it Acme Ltd , and told the owner i would be able to get up to speed with his mechanical drawing software in no time. However, after 2 weeks i still hadnt nailed it down and he started screaming at me. I simply told him i would leave there and then and he didnt have to pay me.
Indeed, i received no pay, but recently whilst applying for a new job, i was directed to the HMRC site and a printout told me that i had been at this company, "acme ltd" for 2 weeks...so i guess they must have payed my TAX and NI?...i didnt even think the HMRC would know i had been there?

What tax and NI was deducted from the pay you didn't receive 🤔faringdon said:In approx June this year i took a job on PAYE at lets call it Acme Ltd , and told the owner i would be able to get up to speed with his mechanical drawing software in no time. They have powers the rest of us find mystical...faringdon said:Thanks, i am just wondering how the HMRC knew about my time at this company...after all, they didnt pay me.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
Employers have to tell HMRC about new employees before their first pay day, so in the 2 weeks you were there they have informed HMRC that you are a new starter and then after you left they will have informed them that you have left.0

I’m simply going to repeat my previous comment that keeping all this in one thread would make everyone’s life so much easier.Alternatively, people can just look at the OPs long list of recent threads and decide if they really want to make the effort to answer. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.7
