Potential increase to Council Tax band G and H in Budget

Im trying to get ahead of the potential doubling of my council tax band (G) in the november 2026 budget by challenging the banding

I have read the guide but would like to know of others experiences with regards to locating evidence to support the challenge

My house was built in 1998 so was a 'drive-by' valuation.  There are at least 8 other properties on the development which are in the same band as me and the rest are in band F
How do assessors look for evidence to refute my claim - i can be as selective as possible when giving proof of similar houses that were a similar size and build to mine but put on a lower band and they will be able to challenge this by finding an equal number of properties that were put on a similar band to mine?

Any experience of others would be very helpful

Can you identify any material difference between the 8 properties in band G and the remainder in band F?
Consider at the time the estate was built rather than now, when some of the properties may have had extensions.

    • Extra off-street parking?
    • Garden size?
    • Different style of bay window?
    • En-suite?

As every other budget posts. Until RR announces anything. These are just rumors peddled by the Media. many when you look at them, are not even British based.

1998 built houses were not usually assessed by a "drive by valuation". I'm ex VOA and from 1993 onwards new builds were assessed by actually measuring the properties and comparing them with 1991 sales evidence and settled appeals. The probability is 1) the Band G houses are actually larger than the Band F and 2) at least one of the houses in Band G will have had their band unsuccessfully challenged.

Can you find 1998 sale prices for both Band F and Band G houses?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
