They have a months-long backlog in answering letters. A letter went to them from Mum in late April 2025, and according to their website, we should expect a reply next February. I'm sure that has slipped since I last checked ... !1

What would be really helpful is if someone could clarify exactly how the relief should be calculated. Am I right to expect a total of £2k (regardless of whether it goes into my pension pot or comes back to me).

But the gross contribution works like the Personal Allowance, it will reduce your earnings which are then taxed. Assuming your taxable earnings were at least £5,000 in that tax year.0
