Teachers pension - phased retirement query
Comments
-
I took my phased retirement in two chunks. I originally took 25% and then took a further 50% when my circumstances changed. It was a Final Salary Pension if that makes a difference. I have the exact figures, but it was the way they calculated the second chunk. I thought they would take a further 50% of my remaining years into account, but they actually took the original 25% + 50% ie 75% into account. I ended up worse off than if I'd taken 75% in the first instance, in terms of years of service they used to calculate my final pension and the phased retirement payments I got. It may be different if you're not on a Final Salary pension, but if you are, just don't do it. As you say, the guidance on the website is as clear as mud.1
